what is home maintenance?  Our definition
of home maintenance is basically anything that involves checking or maintaining
structures, appliances or fixtures in your home. Running a home, whether it’s
big or small can be a pretty intimidating task to say the least. The reality of
life is that it’s all too easy to let the maintenance of your home slide to the
bottom of your priority list; but it should be made a top priority. Here’s a
few projects you should be doing around and outside the house. Need help? Give

Gutters and downspouts

Your home’s primary defense against flooding; the health of your home. Gutters are often overlooked by homeowners but they definitely shouldn’t be. Gutters have one main purpose: divert water away from you home. Heavy rain can cause a major disaster to your home, failure to keep up with your gutters could land you in deep water. Spring is a great time to pull leaves and debris from gutters and downspouts. It’s also important to reattach gutters that have pulled away from the house. We also recommend you run a hose on the roof and check for proper drainage. If there is a leak, dry the area and use caulking or epoxy to seal the leak.

Exterior Caulking

Caulking provides both a great visual appearance and more
importantly creates a seal between two areas of surface to keep water from
getting into your home. As the weather gets warmer, it’s a good idea to Inspect
all caulking and replace if deteriorating. Scrape out all of the eroding caulk
and re-caulk needed area.

Window and Door Screens

Windows and door screens are the barriers of defense for
your home; they keep the pests out and let the fresh air in. We recommend
having the screen cleaned and checked for holes. If holes are bigger than a
quarter, that is plenty of room for bugs to climb in. Patch holes or replace
the screen. You can also save bad screen to patch holes next year. Remember
that wind can ruin screens and frames.

Deck and Porches

A deck can serve and a great outdoor space and a natural
extension of your house, however cleaning and maintenance is required. A
well-maintained deck can add to the property value of your home. Check all
decks, patios, porches, stairs, and railings for loose members and
deterioration. We recommend that open decks and wood fences need to be treated
every 4-6 years, depending on how much exposure they get to sun and rain. If
you aren’t sure where to begin when it comes to maintaining your deck, we would
be happy to help! Let’s make the most out of your outdoor space!

There is a lot involved when talking about
the responsibilities of maintaining your home; not every can do it and not
everyone wants to do it themselves. That’s where we come in. Give us a call
